Concrete Walls Basic for This Wisconsin Home

Carl and Sue Holmgren’s home in Wisconsin was featured in the 08/22/10 Home and Garden feature of the Milwaukee-Sentinel-News.

So, why do we care? Well, the 1950′s style house is built in a Frank Lloyd Wright style using CONCRETE, glass block, tile and no wood trim! In the article, the Holmgren’s speculate that the house might have been built to be a fallout shelter, explaining the concrete walls. They describe how the ceilings and walls and floors are Spancrete, a pre-stressed concrete that’s reinforced with steel. The pieces are about 40 inches wide.

They’ve gone inside and decorated artistically to make their own fascinating statement and bring comfort to concrete. There is a neat slide show with the article that shows how they’ve decorated and made the house a home in their unique style.
