Trade shows are important, but sometimes they are not going to fit your schedule. However, according to suggestions made in a recent post at Groov-E-News/Engrave-A-Crete blog entitled “Seven Reasons to Farm the Farmers’ Market for an Autumn Harvest of Decorative Concrete” a local farmers’ market could be a very good resource for you to display what you can do with decorative concrete engraving.
The people who shop at the home-grown produce department are often the sort of people who would be interested in your services. They are willing to spend differently to get what they want. They appreciate the environmental benefits of ‘reusing’ concrete in a beautiful and useful way.
Meanwhile, the booths at a farmers’ market are often economical for your marketing budget.
The seven nice reasons include:
- You don’t have to commit or plan several months in advance to get a spot as you would be get into a trade show
- As mentioned above, the spaces are often quite reasonably priced
- You will surely stand out as unique among the garden produce, small animals, poultry, crafts, food (cookies and pies)and other services who see the farmers’ market as a useful venue to reach prospective customers.
- You get to market to all levels of people — both shoppers and other vendors. All of which are often in a relaxed, buying mood.
- The markets are usually one day a week — you can count on that
- They are open air, but early morning active, before heat makes brains shut down.
- You can get an early chance at some good produce and maybe a chicken, or bunny or puppy or free kitten for your own yard.
Groov-E suggests a simple booth with a lawn chair and umbrella if you aren’t in a park with lots of trees or under a major market canopy. Be ready to visit.
Small things like pet rocks or stepping stones make nice display and can even be sold.
Create a guest book that permits people to give you contact information. You can follow-up with a note or email to give the business relationship a boost toward business or referrals. Stay casual and summer-cool. Remember, just as the other farmers who are at the market, you have to plant seed. You may harvest some work this fall, but it might be a basement in the winter or a patio next spring too. Just be ready.
